It was then relocated to a corner of Meiji Jingu Gaien. In 1888, the building served as the venue for the Imperial Conference to deliberate on the draft of the “Constitution of the Empire of Japan,” and Emperor Meiji always attended. Due to this history, the Meiji Memorial Hall Main Building is also known as the “Constitution Memorial Hall.” The opening ceremony for the Meiji Memorial Hall was held in 1947 as a wedding hall under the name “Meiji Memorial Hall.” Since then, over 230,000 couples have celebrated their new beginnings here. Today, in addition to weddings, the hall’s many venues are used for a variety of purposes, including MICE events such as parties and meetings, celebrations and anniversaries, and dinner parties at its restaurants and kaiseki restaurants. In 2020, the historical and architectural value of the main building was
recognized, and it was designated a Tokyo Metropolitan Tangible Cultural Property (Building). Currently, it is primarily open as the lounge/dining room “kinkei” on weekdays. The open space facing the garden and historic interior, including a coffered ceiling reminiscent of the Meiji era, offer a high-quality experience combining Japanese spirit and Western learning. Guests can also enjoy Meiji Memorial Hall’s original cakes and other Japanese and Western sweets, as well as siphon-brewed coffee, providing a relaxing space and time away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
